Family business at the family table
Submitted by The Rev. David Roquemore, pastor at the Camp
Hill Presbyterian Church in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania
The idea of offering pastoral prayers at the Table was taught to me twenty
years ago by the late Rev. Wesley Baker. He called it "doing the family
business at the family table." Over the years I have found he is right.
Especially in those congregations that do not serve the Lord's Supper each week,
it is a powerful reminder that "we are gathered here at your table, O Lord,
and we bring our praise and our prayers to you." I believe the bread and
cup on the table serve as further reminders of the importance and centrality
of the table in our midst.
Tell us your story so
that we might share it with other congregations who could benefit from your experience. |
