Seek fullness of life for all

Submitted by the Rev. Bruce Gillette, Limestone Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, Delaware

The Rev. Gillette offers this example of the ethical dimensions of our sacramental practice — how the openness and fullness of the font calls us, as Christ's disciples, to be open to the needs of others and to seek fullness of life for all:

When the Limestone Presbyterian Church baptizes a child, we promise (on behalf of the one universal Church) to help care for and nurture the baptized child. We also have an optional special offering. In the back of our sanctuary there is a woven container from Kenya where people can place donations. This money, offered in the name of the baptized child, will be used to support Rehabilitation Center for Children (also called the Wee School), a mission project in Kenya that has many children who are orphans from the Sudan conflict and the AIDS pandemic. We see this as a way for the newly baptized child to begin a life of Christian discipleship in service to others. To date, Limestone has raised over $3,000 for the Wee School on Baptism Sundays.

Tell us your story so that we might share it with other congregations who could benefit from your experience.
