The font is always open

Submitted by the Rev. Paul H. Lang of Peace Presbyterian Church in Winterville, North Carolina

When we recently rebuilt our sanctuary, we took the opportunity to rethink where our font was and how it was a part of the congregation's worship and life. Invitation to Christ had just been published, and it was such a blessing to me to be able to show my building committee the thinking of the paper and get them (from the very start of the building process) to consider the issues raised. Now the font is always open and full (with running water) at the entrance to the sanctuary. We had this font custom built for our church. It is a joy for me to see everyone now becoming used to touching the water as they enter and leave the sanctuary — a reminder that they are baptized.

Tell us your story so that we might share it with other congregations who could benefit from your experience.
