Calvary St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Parish
Calvary St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Parish is a very active smaller membership urban church located in the South Wedge section of Rochester, N.Y. This parish is “committed to ministries of compassion, social justice and systemic change and is a church in action.” Its members are involved with their larger community through a variety of ways — developing affordable housing through its local community development, working with their neighborhood organization to address issues of public safety and improving their public park, providing food through their Emergency Food Cupboard and making and providing shawls as a ministry of comfort to those who are ill.
Parish members are also committed to deepening their spiritual walk with God. They have been reading and studying together Martha Grace Reese’s book Unbinding the Gospel and spending time in prayer together.
Long-time pastor the Rev. Judy Hay has also been involved in the recent formation of the Consortium of Urban Presbyterian Churches in Rochester. This consortium is exploring ways to support, network, resource and strengthen the life of these urban congregations and to build a stronger Presbyterian presence in the city.
Calvary St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Parish is a welcoming congregation, a congregation that proclaims “Draw the circle wide — wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome to join us at our table for fellowship.”
