Selecting a Stewardship Theme

Each congregation’s stewardship committee or session should weigh the pros and cons of various themes and commitment program styles to choose the one that fits their situation at the present time.

Blessed be the Lord God

Luke 1:68 (NRSV)

“Blessed be the Lord God” comes from the song of Zechariah — celebrating the birth of John the Baptist and announcing the birth of the Christ. It is a song of celebration, gratitude, vision and hope. Music can often express what is otherwise inexpressible. Lyric, rhythm, and melody combine to help communicate the deepest moving of the soul. Singing adds a new passion and depth words. For those who offer gifts to God in the context of worship, singing often accompanies the offering connecting their hearts with the act of giving. It is a way for the giver to express his or her love as integral with the offering.

So Great A Cloud of Witnesses

Hebrews 12:1

This theme reminds us that we are all greatly indebted to the persons who raised us, guided us, taught us and protected us. We repay those debts by doing whatever we can to better society by passing on some of their love to other, by reaching out and listening to the cries of those who have fallen through the cracks of life.
