  Confessions, Principles and Diversity

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) must work through the relationships between unity and diversity in our own time and place. Three General Assembly theological statements from the 1980's provide rich resources for presbyteries and congregations, ministers and members, as we struggle to understand what faithfulness requires of us.

"The Confessional Nature of the Church" (986) explores the role of confessions of faith n the church. How does one collection of multiple creeds, confessions, and catechisms from other times and places instruct, lead, and guide the church today?

"Historic Principles, Conscience, and Church Government" (1983) helps to clarify the relationship between theology and polity, and between doctrine and conscience.

"Is Christ Divided?" (1988) explores theological diversity and the unity of the church.
