PART 1: Prince Caspian
Luke 24:1–12
Jesus has risen. It’s the basic Christian story, the foundation of our faith. Why is it so hard to believe?
Recently I was with a group of minister friends, and one of them asked, “What’s the wildest thing you ever said from the pulpit?” We swapped a couple of tales of prophetic excess, quirky interpretations of Scripture and the like. Finally one man piped up, “The wildest thing I ever preached is that the man Mary met in the garden was Jesus” (John 20:11–18).
It doesn’t get any wilder than that. The women arrive at Jesus’ tomb to find the stone rolled away and their beloved friend gone. “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” ask two messengers. “He is not here, but has risen” (Luke 24:5)...
In Prince Caspian, a book in C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia series, Lucy Pevensie and her siblings are making their way to meet up with Prince Caspian and assist him in battle. The group is trying to decide which route to take, when Lucy suddenly exclaims, “Look! The Lion. Didn’t you see?” as her face shines with the recognition of her friend Aslan.
