What an amazing week we had in “Discovery Canyon” at Harvey Browne Memorial Presbyterian Church Vacation Bible School last week. A wonderful group of 44 adult and youth volunteers shared their time, talent and energy so that 123 children in our church and community were able to enjoy Bible Stories, crafts, music, recreation, snacks and a closing worship with puppets each day in our own Discovery Canyon. We began the week on Sunday with and open house and ended it this past Sunday at our 10 a.m. summer worship with the children singing all wearing their colorful T-shirts and enjoying Sunday School together.
During the week, they enjoyed a pizza party with parents and we made $361.32 on our bake sale to donate to the Great American Bake Sale to stamp out childhood hunger. The children also brought canned goods and non-perishable items to re-stock the food pantry at Portland Presbyterian that suffered a fire some months ago.
It was a fabulous week of mission and fun that the Christian Education Team at Harvey Browne planned and worked on for months so that the children of our community would know and experience God’s love firsthand. This is just one of the many missions and Christian Education Events that are part of the ministry at Harvey Browne Church.
At Harvey Browne, we encourage children to attend worship with their families and provide them with lectionary-based educational materials to use during services. During the year, we also offer several Multigenerational Learning Events focused around liturgical seasons. These events are times where children, youth and adults share meals together and work together on various projects and activities. It is also a time where everyone learns about and becomes a part of various mission opportunities at Harvey Browne such as our First Annual Community Mission Day on May 30. This was a wonderful workday where HB members, friends and family logged 298 hours of service in our community. Harvey Browne is strongly dedicated to reaching out to others and helping people of all ages make a difference by making disciples. |
