During the week of Around the World in 5 Days: A Visit to the U.S.A., we ask the question, "What does it mean to be mission-minded?" Being mission-minded, having a heart and a mind for mission, is about:

  • Evangelism — sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others;
  • Hospitality — listening to others and providing a space for them to be at home;
  • Prayer — connecting with God and others through prayer;
  • Generosity — having a spirit that gives lovingly to the neighbor in need;
  • Action — following Jesus' example to serve one another in love.

This Vacation Bible School is designed to allow children, ages 4-10 (or preschool-grade 5), and the youth and adults who will lead and guide them to explore the wonderful world of mission. Participants will have an opportunity to:

  • Learn Bible stories that help them understand that having a heart and a mind for mission is about evangelism, hospitality, prayer, generosity and action;
  • Hear letters written by people who are mission-minded;
  • Discover what makes the United States both diverse and similar as they explore the regions of the country through music, food, crafts, games and more;
  • Increase their love for and awareness of people in the United States so that they might know themselves as brothers and sisters in the family of God.

For the purpose of this Vacation Bible School a boat theme will be used. As children arrive they enter the Dock area and check in with the Purser (Registrar). The Dock time provides children with some free choice activities. The Captain and First Mate are the leaders for the Boat Ride to the Activity Stations (craft, snack and games and music).
