Human Rights, Justice & Peacemaking Extra Commitment Opportunity (#E865714)

January 2007

"... justice will roll down like water and righteousness like an overflowing stream" (Amos 5:24)

Dear Advocate,

The newly-elected 110th Congress is now at work on major initiatives that will impact the lives of families, human rights abroad and the quality of life. This packet is our annual information and advocacy resource for the current legislative year. We hope that it will assist you when you need to contact your officials. At the bottom of this letter are the Web site links to several helpful items. The January/February REPORT to Presbyterians from Washington will now be our OUTLOOK publication. It will take a long view of what we expect to be working on during this first half of the 110th Congressional session. Share it with others.

We are also happy to provide the 2007 Biblical & Theological Perspective,This is an Adobe Acrobat pdf document. entitled "For God So Loved the World" as written by the Rev. Dr Clifton Kirkpatrick, our own Stated Clerk of the General Assembly. Past biblical and theological perspectives are also available.

The 109th Congress left a lot undone. By now, you should have received the 2006 November/December Wrap-Up edition of REPORT. It gives a summary of issues we wrote about in the second half of the 109th Congress. As you can see, we still have our work cut out for us. Even though the House adopted several important measures, during their first days, the Senate still must act and the President needs to sign before we can claim a victory.

With this letter, we once again ask you to help us help you. Please contribute to the Public Policy Advocacy Extra Commitment Opportunity. It helps cover the cost of the bi-monthly REPORT to Presbyterians from Washington, a mailing that has grown since last year. Your contribution also assists with the cost of on-site programs. Through this contribution opportunity, we feel we are in partnership with you on vital issues of poverty, environment, peace and civil liberties. Encourage others in your church to join with us in these efforts by having them sign up for one of these Networks.

In Faith,

Elenora Giddings Ivory
Director, Washington Office
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
