The Audiovisual Workshop Matthew 28:16–20 through audiovisual media that is heard, viewed or made. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Read the Scripture passage and discuss Jesus’ instructions.
- Watch the story of the Great Commission as portrayed in The Visual Bible: Matthew.
- Watch The Legend of the Three Trees.
- Respond to a journal prompt in writing or with a drawing.
The Computer Workshop explores Matthew 28:16–20 using computers. Sometimes computers are used to tell the story and, sometimes they are used to respond to it. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Learn Matthew 28:18–20 using Cal and Marty’s Scripture Memory Game software.
- Draw pictures illustrating the Great Commission using Kid Pix Studio Deluxe, 3rd Edition software.
The Drama/Storytelling Workshop explores Matthew 28:16–20 by retelling the story in ways that help children remember it. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear the story of the Great Commission.
- Think about Jesus’ instructions to the disciples to continue his work.
- Hear Jesus’ call to us to continue his work.
- Begin to understand that Jesus was with the first disciples and is with us, too.
- Learn about some disciples and the ways that they have continued Jesus’ work: making more disciples and spreading God’s love.
The Games and Puzzles Workshop explores Matthew 28:16–20 by having children play biblically related games or puzzles. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Retell and discuss Jesus’ last words to his disciples as he commissioned them to a life of service.
- Talk about how they might go, baptize, teach and remember.
- Play a game (or more) to reinforce the story and Jesus’ last assignment for his disciples then and now.
The Music and Worship Workshop explores Matthew 28:16–20 through music and makes the connection to worship in PC(USA) congregations. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about the meaning of commissioning and the Great Commission.
- Enjoy the rhythm and sound of the “Great Commission Rap.”
- Gain an understanding of what it means to be commissioned.
The Bonus: Discovery Workshop Matthew 28:16–20 with activities that help children learn about mission and how the church’s mission is carried out in and through the PC(USA). This workshop also gives children an opportunity to explore their own role in mission. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about evangelism and mission in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
- Learn about how their congregation is working to make disciples of all nations.
- Participate in a “mission fair.”
