The Audiovisual Workshop explores Genesis 1:1–2:4 through audiovisual media that is heard, viewed or made. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Know where to find the creation story in the Bible.
- See that there are different ways to tell about creation.
- Acknowledge the goodness of all that God has created.
- Watch the videos God's Trombones and The Creation Chronicles.
The Computer Workshop explores Genesis 1:1–2:4 using computers. Sometimes computers are used to tell the story, and sometimes they are used to respond to it. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear the creation story.
- Experiment with color and design on a computer.
- Use the computer to create a scene from the creation story.
- Unscramble a Bible verse.
- Use Kid Pix Studio Deluxe, 3rd edition and Cal and Marty's Scripture Memory Game software.
The Drama/Storytelling Workshop explores Genesis 1:1–2:4 by retelling the story in ways that help children remember it. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Find Genesis 1:1–2:4 in their Bibles.
- Consider God's response to each day of creation and what that means for us.
- Act out the creation story.
The Games and Puzzles Workshop explores Genesis 1:1–2:4 by having children play biblically related games or puzzles. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Discover that the story of creation is the first story in the Bible.
- Find Genesis 1:1 in their Bibles.
- Identify things that God made and affirm that they are good.
- Reinforce their knowledge of the story through games and puzzles.
- Play “Quizzical,” a game in which children come up with the questions for answers that are provided.
The Music and Worship Workshop explores Genesis 1:1–2:4 through music and makes the connection to worship in PC(USA) congregations. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Learn the creation story.
- Explore and illustrate hymns of creation, including “All Things Bright and Beautiful” (The Presbyterian Hymnal, no. 267).
- Understand that God made all things good.
The Bonus: Storybook Workshop explores Genesis 1:1–2:4 hearing, seeing and reflecting on creation storybooks. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear the story of creation from the Bible.
- Use their imaginations to think about a day of creation.
- Hear, see and reflect on creation storybooks.
