The Audiovisual Workshop explores Luke 14:15–24 through audiovisual media that is heard, viewed or made. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear and think about the parable of the Great Dinner.
- Film a stop-action short film of the parable of the Great Dinner.
- Share the stop-action short film of the parable of the Great Dinner with others in the congregation.
- Begin to understand that nothing is as important as serving God.
The Computer Workshop explores Luke 14:15–24 using computers. Sometimes computers are used to tell the story, and sometimes they are used to respond to it. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Use Kid Pix Studio Deluxe 4.0 or 3rd Edition software to create an invitation to Jesus’ party in the kingdom.
- Brainstorm all kinds of excuses.
- Use the computer to create a “Choose Your Words” story of the parable of the Great Dinner.
The Drama/Storytelling Workshop explores Luke 14:15–24 by retelling the story in ways that help children remember it. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Make a puppet.
- Tell the parable of the Great Dinner using puppets.
- Use puppets to role-play possible responses to God’s invitation.
The Games and Puzzles Workshop explores Luke 14:15–24 by having children play biblically related games or puzzles. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Play “Will You Come?” (a twist on Mother, May I?) to illustrate the parable.
- Identify themselves as people who have been invited to join Jesus at the table.
- Prepare for and enjoy a simple party.
The Music and Worship Workshop explores Luke 14:15–24 through music and makes the connection to worship in PC(USA) congregations. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear the parable Jesus told about the great dinner.
- Learn about and practice the spiritual discipline known as “breath prayer.”
- Use breath prayers as they set a table for a meal.
- Learn a new song called “God Wants You to Come to the Table” about this parable.
- Make a connection between the parable and the invitation we receive to come to the Lord’s Table for the Lord’s Supper.
The Bonus: Discovery Workshop explores Luke 14:15–24 with activities that help children learn about the joy of responding to God’s invitation. Objectives of the workshop:
