- Hear the story of Jonah.
- Use scratch art to draw a picture of an action God might be asking of them.
The Audiovisual Workshop explores Jonah 1-4 through audiovisual media that is heard, viewed or made. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear and see the story of Jonah by watching Big Idea’s Jonah — a VeggieTales Movie.
- Think together about God’s mercy, grace and love.
- Begin to understand that God loves us in spite of all the ways we may disappoint God.
- Hear the good news that God gives us all the gift of a second chance, again and again and again.
The Computer Workshop explores Jonah 1-4 using computers. Sometimes computers are used to tell the story and sometimes they are used to respond to it. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Use Cal and Marty’s Scripture Memory Game software to memorize a verse of Scripture.
- Explore the story of Jonah with Elijah and Jonah software.
- Create a puzzle picture by answering questions from the story.
- Consider who God forgives and why.
The Drama/Storytelling Workshop exploresexplores Jonah 1-4 by retelling the story in ways that help children remember it. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Make scenery for a shadow puppet play.
- Hear the story of Jonah.
- Contribute to a script about the Jonah story.
- Participate in a shadow-puppet play.
The Games and Puzzles Workshop explores Jonah 1-4 by having children play biblically related games or puzzles. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Experience what “fair” means by playing traditional games with a nontraditional twist: “Guppy, Fish, Whale” (Rock, Paper, Scissors), “Go Fish, Jonah” (Go Fish), and “Jonah, May I?” (Mother, May I?).
- Learn the story of Jonah through the board game “Go, Jonah!”
- Explore the difference between justice and mercy.
The Music and Worship Workshop explores Jonah 1-4 through music and makes the connection to worship in PC(USA) congregations. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Listen to the story of Jonah and hear about Jonah’s call from God.
- Learn about how Jonah turned away from God.
- Create storybooks to help them remember Jonah’s story.
- Combine a song about turning away from God with a litany from their Jonah storybooks to create a worship experience in which they celebrate God’s grace, forgiveness and love.
The Bonus: Discovery Workshop explores Jonah 1-4 through activities using the five senses. Objectives of the workshop:

- Imagine themselves inside the story of Jonah.
- Experience the story of Jonah using all of their senses.
