The children will have the opportunity to:
- Draw a picture of their families.
- Hear the story of Joseph’s family.
- Express the actions and emotions found in Joseph’s story.
- Draw one of the scenes of Joseph’s story and have it become part of a quilt.
The Audiovisual Workshop explores Genesis 37; 39:1-45:8 through audiovisual media that is heard, viewed or made. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear the story of Joseph as a young boy.
- Participate in telling the rest of the stories in the Joseph cycle.
- Observe how Joseph grew from a boy who was self-centered into a man who cared about others.
- Begin to understand that God can work through both the good and the bad events in their lives.
- Begin to understand that God is with us at all times and in all places.
The Computer Workshop explores Genesis 37; 39:1-45:8 using computers. Sometimes computers are used to tell the story, and sometimes they are used to respond to it. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Use a computer to “paint” scenes from the Joseph story using KidPix Studio Deluxe, 3rd Edition software.
- Hear the story of Joseph and share their colored illustrations.
- Explore feelings of envy and jealousy.
- Conduct an interview as a character from the story using Let’s Talk software.
The Drama/Storytelling Workshop explores Genesis 37; 39:1-45:8 by retelling the story in ways that help children remember it. Objectives of the workshop:

- Use pantomime to tell a family story.
- Hear and learn the story of Joseph.
- Tell the story of Joseph using a storytelling bag.
The Games and Puzzles Workshop explores Genesis 37; 39:1-45:8 by having children play biblically related games or puzzles. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Use a hieroglyphics puzzle to learn the names of Joseph’s family members.
- Create their own cartouche with their names in hieroglyphics.
- Locate the Joseph stories in the Bible.
- Play the board game “Joseph — What a Life!” and learn about nine major events in Joseph’s life.
- Become a dreamer and create a dream picture about their future.
The Music and Worship Workshop explores Genesis 37; 39:1-45:8 through music and makes the connection to worship in PC(USA) congregations. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear the story of Joseph and his brothers.
- Understand how God was with Joseph throughout Joseph’s life.
- Learn a rap song that tells Joseph’s life story.
- Make simple rhythm instruments to use to accompany the Joseph rap song.
The Bonus: Cooking Workshop explores Genesis 37; 39:1-45:8 through cooking activities. Objectives of the workshop:
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear the story of Joseph.
- Make edible play dough they will use to tell part of the story.
- Make Joseph cookies that symbolize the bad and good times in Joseph’s life and God’s constant presence with Joseph.
