The Art Workshop explores Acts 16:11–15, 40 through creative art experiences.
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear the story of Lydia — her baptism and her gift of hospitality.
- Participate in a conversation about acts of kindness they might offer to family, friends, and others.
- Make a burlap banner with symbols of Lydia’s story on it.
The Audiovisual Workshop explores Acts 16:11–15, 40 through audiovisual media that is heard, viewed, or made.
The children will have the opportunity to:
- View a scene, “Be Our Guest,” from the movie Beauty and the Beast and talk about welcoming others.
- Watch the Acts 16:11–15, 40 passage from the movie The Visual Bible: Acts.
- Consider that God calls us to practice what we believe.
- Think about what hospitality means and how they can practice being hospitable.
- Create “Practicing Hospitality” display boards with staged photographs.
The Computer Workshop explores Acts 16:11–15, 40 using computers. Sometimes computers are used to tell the story and sometimes they are used to respond to it.
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Use Cal and Marty’s Scripture Memory Game software to memorize a Scripture verse.
- Imagine a life for Lydia and her family.
- Decide why Lydia became a follower of Christ.
- Report the events to create a newspaper on the computers.
The Drama/Storytelling Workshop explores Acts 16:11–15, 40 by retelling the story in ways that help children remember it.
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Hear and reenact the story of Lydia from Acts 16:11–15, 40.
- Think about Lydia’s experience and respond to prompts.
- Make a stole that represents Lydia’s baptism.
- Participate in a litany about Lydia’s baptism.
The Games and Puzzles Workshop explores Acts 16:11–15, 40 by having children play biblically related games or puzzles.
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Experience the fellowship of the early church with a time for conversation.
- Work together to complete a giant crossword puzzle and learn about Lydia’s role in the spread of Christianity.
- Discover what it means to be the church today by playing the “Survey Says” game.
The Music and Worship Workshop explores Acts 16:11–15, 40 through music and makes the connection to worship in PC(USA) congregations.
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Use thumbprint art to make a greeting card to give to someone special.
- Hear the story of Lydia and Paul.
- Learn the song “Come and Join with Me.”
- Write a litany about hospitality.
The Bonus: Hospitality Workshop explores Acts 16:11–15, 40 with activities that help children learn about being welcoming.
The children will have the opportunity to:
- Experience hospitality from their leader.
- Hear the story of Lydia.
- Discuss and act out ways to show hospitality.
- Make a blanket of hospitality to share with someone in need.
