Down Through the Roof

Purchase the unit, consisting of the seven Workshops below, for $99.95. Bundle three to five units, and the cost drops to $84.95 per unit. Bundle six or more units, and the cost drops to $74.95 per unit. Units must be bundled at the time of purchase; this is not a cumulative discount. Individual workshops are $16.95 each.

The children will have the opportunity to:

  • Consider who Jesus was: healer, teacher, forgiver of sins.
  • Hear a story of Jesus healing a man with paralysis.
  • Explore the words faith and forgiveness.
  • Learn what a village looked like in Jesus' day.
  • Recreate the story through art. (Diorama with modeling clay)

The Audiovisual Workshop explores Luke 5:17-26 through audiovisual media that is heard, viewed or made. Objectives of the workshop:

The children will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn more about what Jesus did in his life and ministry.
  • Hear a story about Jesus healing and how friends helped. (Recommended video: The Miracle Maker: The Story of Jesus)
  • Know where in the Bible we can find a healing story.
  • Think about friends and how to be a good friend. (Polaroid pictures of kindness)
  • Explore how to help others.

The Computer Workshop explores Luke 5:17-26 using computers. Sometimes computers are used to tell the story, and sometimes they are used to respond to it. Objectives of the workshop:

The children will have the opportunity to:

  • Consider how our friends help us in our faith. (Faith, friends and forgiveness word bank)
  • Learn about Jesus' authority to heal and to forgive. (3D House, Recommended software: Play and Learn and Life of Christ)

The Drama/Storytelling Workshop explores Luke 5:17-26 by retelling the story in ways that help children remember it. Objectives of the workshop:

The children will have the opportunity to:

  • Tell the story. (Puppets and puppet show)
  • Identify Jesus as one who had compassion and healed others.
  • Talk about being good friends.
  • Name some ways they can help others.
  • Tell how the church helps others.

The Games and Puzzles Workshop explores Luke 5:17-26 by having children play biblically related games or puzzles. Objectives of the workshop:

The children will have the opportunity to:

  • Find Luke 5:17-26 in their Bibles.
  • Retell and discuss the story of the healing of the man with paralysis.
  • Play a game to reinforce the story and its main idea.("Down through the Roof" Game - sequencing or two-of-a-kind and Word Scramble)

The Music and Worship Workshop explores Luke 5:17-26 through music and makes the connection to worship in PC(USA) congregations. Objectives of the workshop:

The children will have the opportunity to:

  • Hear a dramatic telling of the story of the four friends.
  • Sing about the four friends. (Sing the story: "Come and See Him")
  • Remember promises made in baptism.

The Bonus: Mission Workshop explores Luke 5:17-26 by helping children learn about the ongoing mission of the PC(USA) by participating in an in-workshop mission project. Objectives of the workshop:

The children will have the opportunity to:

  • Work together to accomplish a task.
  • Hear and retell the Bible story. (Progressive Bible story)
  • Learn about One Great Hour of Sharing.
  • Create a gift for others. (Make canvas "Bags of Love")
