3. How is PC(USA) mission supported?

Basic Mission Support is the primary source of funding to plan and implement the mission of the entire church. Basic Mission Support funds mission worker salaries and benefits, gifts or grants to ecumenical agencies, overseas partners (churches, hospitals, schools) and dollars to provide resources and services to congregations and mission governing bodies. An additional funding source for mission is through the Mission Initiative, which seeks to expand Presbyterians' ability to spread the good news of the gospel both at home and abroad. The Mission Initiative is a five-year effort to raise $40 million for international mission personnel and for church growth, especially racial ethnic church growth. Find out more!

4. Does mission happen only overseas?

No. All Presbyterians are called to be missionaries right where they live, proclaim the gospel, attend to people's spiritual needs, and work to improve their human condition. These are attempts to witness to our faith and to make happen what God intends. Find out more! 9. Where can our congregation go on a mission trip?

Many PC(USA) congregations, presbyteries, and synods are engaging in mission through travel/study and service with partner churches and organizations in this country and around the world.

10. Where can we get help for church development or redevelopment?

Your presbytery office is the place to begin. Resources and consultations are available from the GA office of New Church Development. Information about financial assistance in both areas is available from the Mission Program Grant office.

11. How can our congregation support PC(USA) mission work?

  • By contributing to Basic Mission Support, which funds the basic structures that make mission work possible
  • By praying daily for the work of the PC(USA) in this country and around the world
  • By learning about PC(USA) in mission and spreading the word!

12. What are Validated Mission Support Groups? How can I learn more about them?

Validated Mission Support Groups work in covenant relationship with the General Assembly. They promote and raise funds for specific General Assembly validated mission projects and challenge congregations to increase their support and involvement in mission.
