Our Call

Women's Ministries is a partnership among a variety of groups working on behalf of women. Together we seek to:

  • nurture and share the good news of Jesus Christ;
  • engage in ministries of justice and quality of life on behalf of women everywhere;
  • envision and advocate for the wholeness of the church in which women are full partners in leadership and ministry;
  • encourage and strengthen cultural diversity and work for the full participation of racial-ethnic women in leadership;
  • promote cooperative decision-making within the church;
  • listen, learn and walk with those on the margins of church and society;
  • encourage promotion of the theological and liturgical contributions of women;
  • support the mission of the church worldwide.

Our Ministry Programs

Women's Ministries supports and coordinates the various programs for women, including:

Women's Advocacy
Provides information, action alerts and resources on issues affecting women in the church and society and also facilitates networking and training opportunities. The Advocacy Committee for Women's Concerns (ACWC), created by the General Assembly to advocate and monitor on behalf of women, is staffed by this office.

Young Women's Ministries
Supports two specific programs working with college women and racial ethnic young women while exploring emerging opportunities for equipping and empowering young women in the PC(USA).

National Network of Presbyterian College Women (NNPCW) works to develop a network of women in college and to expand opportunities for leadership development and spiritual growth.

Racial Ethnic Young Women Together (REYWT), pronounced "root," works to form a nationally structured network of racial ethnic young women whose leadership will reflect the diversity of today's church.

The Ghana Project

Women's Ministries stands with the women of Ghana and their African sisters as they create a place to grow spiritually, reflect and do theology together. We stand with them as they struggle in their church and country to claim a place for women as leaders. The Ghana Women's Project offers American Presbyterian women the opportunity of sharing the struggles and dreams of their African sisters. Learn about The Ghana Project.

Our Ministry Partner

Presbyterian Women (PW)
PW, the women's organization of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is open to all women who choose to participate in or be supportive of PW in any way. PW intentionally seeks the membership of women of all ages, races, ethnicities and geographic locations. PW and Women's Ministries enjoy a covenant relationship that is based upon shared beliefs, and complementary visions and commitments, common history and a relationship of mutual respect and cooperation.

PW produces a wide variety of resources for the PC(USA). Its primary resource is Horizons, an annual Bible study and bimonthly magazine. The Bible study looks at topics and books of the Bible from the perspectives of women. The magazine provides ideas, information and inspiration for women in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

  PC(USA) Policies Affecting Women

Presbyterian Church Social Witness Policy 1970-2004 PDF icon
This policy compilation is an updated version of what was originally prepared by the Presbyterian United Nations Office in the context of the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women (FWCW) which took place in September 1995. These policies are, therefore, categorized by the 12 critical areas of concern chosen by FWCW. The original version is found in the appendix of When We Are All Strong Together by Jennifer Butler and Milissa Gillis, 1997.

Search the entire compilation of work by the Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy, in the context of General Assembly statements, over a period covering most of the past seventy-five years.

  Inclusive Language
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has taken steps since the 1960's to show its commitment to the use of inclusive language. Get resources and actions of the PC(USA) related to the use of inclusive language.
