Congo Programs and Projects

Education

Protestant University of Congo enrolls more than 4,500 students in schools of business/economics, theology and law.

Reformed Theological Seminary in Kasai offers bachelor’s and master’s programs, as well as continuing education for pastors, and a women’s school.

             
 
 

Health

Below are some of the hospitals and community programs in the Democratic Republic of Congo to which the PC(USA) is related. For more information visit International Health Ministries.

Bibanga Presbyterian Hospital is the only functioning hospital in an area of more than 3,000-square kilometers.

Bulape Presbyterian Medical Center is a 131-bed hospital that serves a population of more than 100,000.

The Christian Medical Institute of the Kasai (IMCK) provides instruction for qualified medical and dental personnel.

Kinshasa Urban Clinics focuses on pre- and post-natal care, immunizations, well-baby clinics and treatment of minor illnesses.

Lubondai Hospital is an 80-bed reference hospital under the government's rural health program.

Luebo Hospital serves the area that surrounds the original location of Presbyterian work in Congo.

Mbujimayi Presbyterian Hospital Center serves more than 30,000 patients each year.

 
             
 
 

Self-Development

Below are a number of Self-Development of people projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo through which local people are organizing to improve their productivity and profit. For more information visit the Self Development of People Web site.

Agir Contre la Pauvrette au Congo Action Bopeto ($24,900) is an N.G.O. of cattle breeders in Kinshasa.

Femme Debout (Standing Woman), Kinshasa ($16,500)
This cooperative enables these women to buy a flour mill to grind manioc, maize, soy and stock/store the ground products.

Boyokani, Kinshasa ($18,750)
This group is able to reduce their community’s expenditures on clothing by two-thirds simply by becoming the manufacturers. The grant will go toward buying the equipment needed.

Breeders Group, Kinshasa ($8,000)
Thirty-eight women who have experience breeding rabbits and pigs are now able to purchase their own along with the necessary food and storage facilities for a successful breeding business.

Kinshasa Pig Farm Association, Kinshasa ($9,120)
This group came together to purchase land, build 10 pig pens, construct a storage depot and a sentry house. The grant will substantially increase this community’s ability to generate income and improve their living conditions.

Christians Together Against Poverty, Kinshasa ($12,170)
By raising chickens this group will be able to improve their personal diets as well as generate additional income.
