History: |
In 1948, Apayao
Christian Academy was founded to serve a group of marginalized people.
This was made possible through the initiative, support, and faith
of the American Protestant Missionaries who saw the great need to
establish an educational system. The school struggled to prosper,
growing steadily in enrollment, faculty size, and physical facilities.
In 1984, the name was changed to Apayao Community Learning Center
(ACLC) to include the need of the community for an expanded program
in a formal and non-formal setting. The formal setting includes
an established preschool and high school education while the extension
programs include Appropriate Technology in Primary Health Care,
Agriculture, Environmental Management and Protection, as well as
Christian Education. . |

Mission: |
ACLC envisions a better
quality of life for the Apayao people, as exemplified in the life
and teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, as it seeks a life of faith,
learning, and action. ACLC's activities are based on Matthew 22:37-39:
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul,
and strength and your neighbor as yourself." |

|
| |
Needs: |
ACLC is in the midst
of an Adopt a Student Program. The overhead cost per student in
an academic year is about $150. The student is responsible for half
the cost and the school raises the other half through scholarship
and other fund-raising activities. |
