Bethel Evangelical Secondary School

Dembi Dollo, Ethiopia

History: Bethel Evangelical Secondary School was founded in 1963. It originally served grades 7 and 8. The school gradually added higher grades until the first class graduated in 1968. When the growing student population required the construction of a new facility, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) provided
the funding. The present facility was completed in 1970.

Profile: Bethel Evangelical Secondary School currently serves grades 7 through 12.

Mission: The school's mission is to "serve the whole person" and to "build the physical, spiritual, and intellectual life of the learner." In order to fulfill this mission, the school practices a holistic approach to education: classes in academic subjects are supplemented with classes in Bible and in practical skills such as agriculture, woodworking, metal technology, home economics, and typing.

Church Relationship: Western Wollega Bethel Synod of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus.
