Ewing Christian
College grew out of the purchase of a school by the Presbyterian
Church USA and was established as a college in 1902 by Dr. Arthur
H. Ewing, a Presbyterian missionary in Allahabad. The College has
grown consistently and steadily over the years.
Profile:
Currently the College
has over 2500 students enrolled in 3-year degree programs and in
1.5 year diploma courses. Ewing was the second college out of 450
in the state to have been given autonomous status. The revised academic
programs, the introduction of job-oriented courses, compulsory attendance,
the continuous evaluation of students and a host of extra-curricular
activities have given Ewing students an edge over others in securing
admission to professional schools and jobs. The College has also
better equipped students for competitive examinations and interviews.
Mission:
The mission of Ewing
Christian College is to make higher education relevant to the needs
of the community; to shift the emphasis from exam-oriented teaching
to relevant learning and skills acquisition in the context of a
Christian community; to change the rigidity of Indian higher education
by granting autonomy to the college, allowing freedom for innovation
and by providing a minority religious character to the institution.
