Henry Martyn Institute

Hyderabad, India

History: In 1930, a school was started and named after missionary Henry Martyn to equip missionaries for evangelical proselytizing. The Henry Martyn Institute of Islamic Studies gave missionaries language skills and information about Islam that would better prepare them to answer the objections to Christianity that Muslims and Hindus would bring. Since 1986, the institute has been functioning as an expression of the church's ministry of reconciliation.

Profile: The Henry Martyn Institute is an ecumenical organization which offers a variety of courses and study programs at its headquarters, including a summer course on Islam and Interfaith Relations, a two-week course in the series Foundations for Reconciliation, and a Master of Theology in Religions (Islam) degree.

Mission: The Henry Martyn Institute functions as an expression of the church's ministry of reconciliation, focusing on improving relationships between people of different faiths and traditions and encouraging an objective and respectful knowledge of all religions, particularly Islam.
