These are called Extra Commitment Opportunities (ECOs). Agriculture and Hunger

Hunger and Human Development in Latin America and the Caribbean

Children and their families throughout Latin America and the Caribbean continue to suffer from hunger and poverty brought about by social disruption, political oppression, economic inequities and natural disasters. Church groups and community organizations are mobilized to address these problems. They need financial assistance to support agricultural and economic development, education and nutritional enhancement, training and technical assistance for poor people in rural and urban areas.

Disaster Response and Relief 

Disaster Response — Caribbean Disaster  

This account supplements the One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) offering to enable a significant response for relief and disasters in the Caribbean. If the need for the funds for this specific project no longer exists, then those funds may be applied to a similar project or need at the discretion of Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA). Evangelism

CANACOM (Caribbean–North American Council for Mission) 

Much of PC(USA)'s mission work in the Caribbean region is carried out through an exciting collaborative effort called CANACOM, the Caribbean–North American Council for Mission. Evangelism, particularly with young people, is a priority. CANACOM supports local church initiatives, enables sharing of people in mission and organizes mission teams and work camps that bring together young people from across the region.

Central America Intercambios CEDEPCA 

This project enables emerging leaders to come together across religious and national boundaries to reflect biblically and theologically on the difficult contexts of their lives and the challenges and resources they share as Christians.

Human Rights, Justice and Peacemaking

Peacemaking in Latin America 

Gifts to this ECO assist peacemaking, reconciliation and conflict resolution in Latin America. Other goals include developing educational and human resources to enable U.S. Presbyterians to learn about the complexities that exist in the region.

Mission Personnel

Give to Mission Personnel in The Americas            

For nearly a century the Presbyterian Church has had a mission presence in Latin America, the Caribbean and South America. Today over 50 mission personnel continue to bear witness to the love of God in Christ through education, evangelism, health ministries and community development, and regional coordinators work with congregations in the United States to ensure that short-term mission trips are held in the context of sustainable ministry for the good of the whole community and church. Gifts to this account support the costs needed to send and maintain the ministry of our PC(USA) mission co-workers in the Western Hemisphere.

Regional Liaison for Central America

Tracey King serves as regional liaison for Central America with a particular calling to peacemaking and reconciliation. Her work includes travel to the five Central American countries in which the PC(USA) has denominational partners: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. "Being in partnership means we not only listen, but we also risk being touched and transformed by our partners' perspectives and realities," writes Tracey. "As a mission worker of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), I am lucky to be part of a new model of mission and of relationship between institutions. Please pray for our church and institutions as we struggle to work together in healthy and fruitful partnership."

Women Discovering New Roles and Support in Central America — CEDEPCA 

Protestant women throughout Central America are moving into new roles as leaders in their churches. Workshops, seminars and biblical reflection help these women as they assume opportunities and responsibilities among the people of God.

Central America Liaison — Expenses

Central America is a key region for PC(USA)'s partnership involvements. It is also the destination for a large proportion of Presbyterians' mission trips. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is also heavily involved in the region. The regional liaison for Central America position is therefore very high priority for the World Mission program area. Gifts to this account help defray the direct and indirect costs of sending or supporting the person in this position. 

Regional Liaison Caribbean — Expenses

Gifts to this account help defray the direct and indirect costs of travel and operating expenses for the regional liaison in helping implement agreed-upon programs with partner churches and institutions, supporting PC(USA) congregations and presbyteries in mission involvement with partners, and supporting PC(USA) mission personnel serving in the region. This region includes Cuba, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica and Cayman Islands and Trinidad and Tobago. The Caribbean, especially Cuba, is the focus for a large proportion of Presbyterians' mission trips and partnership involvements.

Regional Liaison South America — Expenses
   
Gifts to this account help defray the direct and indirect costs of travel and operating expenses of the regional liaison in helping implement agreed-upon programs with partner churches and institutions, supporting PC(USA) congregations and presbyteries in mission involvement with partners, and supporting PC(USA) mission personnel serving in the region. This region includes Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. The regional liaison also visits Presbyterian theological institutions and gatherings of Latin American seminaries and assists in developing and implementing a theological education strategy with partners in the region.
