Lesotho
The “mountain kingdom” of Lesotho, completely surrounded by South Africa, is now about one-fifth the size it was 70 years ago; South African farmers have taken over much of its fertile land. It has had a problem with South Africa, especially in relation now to access to water from Lesotho’s mountains, but a pipeline is being built by South Africa and international partners.
The PC(USA) has been involved in Lesotho through medical and other mission personnel and cooperative efforts with the Lesotho Evangelical Church, the Presbyterian Church of Canada and several Lesotho educational programs. Through the Presbyterian Hunger Program the PC(USA) is assisting the Lesotho Joining Hands Against Hunger network, and a facilitator for the program is being sought.
