Extra Commitment Opportunities

There is a channel through which gifts can be designated for specific items that support the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s work around the world. These are called Extra Commitment Opportunities (ECOs). You can give directly to an ECO account online or by mailing your check designating the name and account number of the particular item you have chosen to:

Children of Africa

The PC(USA) supports the various efforts of its partners in Africa as they engage in ministering to children in need. Programs reach out to orphans, street children and education and skills-building opportunities.

Regional Liaison for Southeast Africa

Gifts to this ECO provide travel and operating expenses for the work of the regional liaison in supporting partner churches and programs, mission personnel, involvement of PC(USA) presbyteries and congregations, and organizations and mission networks in the region, which includes Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

  AIDS Crisis Overseas

AIDS continues to be a crisis for entire families in many parts of the world. Gifts to this account will support congregation-based AIDS projects, prevention education, various forms of training and continuing education events, including the training of pastors, materials development, support of hospitals doing testing, counseling and training of staff among other things.

FJKM, Reforestation and Environmental Education

In response to the environmental degradation that is devastating the country, the Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar (FJKM) is promoting sustainable integrated development through its environmental program. PC(USA) funds will be used to install village tree nurseries, conduct training in nursery and soil management, and create and operate an environmental education program in primary schools.

NetWorkers Malaria Prevention

NetWorkers projects in malaria-stricken nations provide mosquito nets and prevention education to protect families from malaria, the disease that is the leading cause of death among young children and a serious health threat to pregnant women.

  Dan and Elizabeth Turk — Environmental and Development Consultant/Public Health Specialist

Dan and Elizabeth Turk serve in Madagascar through the Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar’s (FJKM) development branch, within which are departments of health, environment, agriculture, and safe drinking water. The FJKM believes Christian witness includes ministry to the physical and spiritual needs of people and care for all of God’s creation. Dan and Elizabeth work as advisors to the environment and health departments, respectively. The Turks received the William Gibson Lifetime Achievement award from Presbyterians for Restoring Creation at the 217th General Assembly. This award reflects a vision and commitment to improve people’s health and preserve God’s creation in Madagascar.
