Philippines
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) initiated mission work in the Philippines in 1899, followed by other U.S. mainline denominational missionaries. During the first 50 years each mission group worked independently, building churches, schools, hospitals and social service centers. Then in 1948 the Protestant denominations in the Philippines came together and form the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP).
Through mission
personnel, Young Adult Volunteers and in partnership
with the UCCP, the PC(USA) is involved in theological
education and leadership development, evangelism and new
church development, social service and development, young
adult and women ministries, justice and peace, security
and reconciliation.
The mission priorities of the PC(USA) in the Philippines are:
- Leadership formation of the youth and young adults of its partner church
- Leadership development of pastors and lay leaders
- Ministries to abused women and children
- Social and economic development
- Peace, justice and reconciliation and Christian-Muslim dialogue
