Education
Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu Education Authority
The PCV Educational Authority provides guidance and leadership for all the schools that are operated by The Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu. Historically, Onesua Presbyterian College has been the leading secondary school in the country and now the church is taking on the responsibility for many more schools. Recent studies have shown that the church operated schools are doing a better job of education than the government only schools. This undoubtedly comes from the PCV concept of educating the “head, heart and hands.” The education authority monitors school progress, provides chaplains and religious education and services and assists in the distribution of resources. Contributions to the PCVEA will help educate both young boys and girls in a country where the literacy rate is only 32 percent.

Talua Seminary and Training Centre
Talua continues the tradition of the Presbyterian Church in providing advanced training to pastors and lay leaders. At Vanuatu's independence in 1980, Talua provided the bulk of the leaders of the new government since they were the most highly trained local people and they continue that tradition. Today Talua offers a Bachelors of Ministry Degree, programs in Christian Education, Evangelism and Field Mission Work. Donations to this ECO will provide scholarships for training pastors and lay leaders, including women, as well as for short-term (one-year) evangelist training programs. Talua has begun a program of outreach to villages all over Vanuatu providing training in conflict resolution, leadership and village development. Donations to this ECO will allow for additional aspiring men and women to enter ministry, provide better Christian education and further evangelism efforts throughout the country. |
