DWELL/YAV Atlanta

YAV Tony Russell, left, participates in a march. Photo by Adam Seeley. This site seeks young adults to serve and learn with the people of Atlanta, to engage in intentional Christian community and personal discipleship, to work with local ministries and agencies and to explore urban multi-cultural ministry as a vocation and calling.
Potential sites include service in the areas of:
- law and advocacy
- healthcare
- homeless services
- refugee services
- education
Volunteers will serve their work placements approximately 32 hours a week.
Each volunteer will live in community with three to five other volunteers. The house is located in south central Atlanta, walking distance to Turner Field.
There will be three retreats each year for the participants that will be led by the site coordinator. Households will have rules such as no alcohol or smoking in the house. Dress is expected to be appropriate for the community in which the volunteers serve. This is fairly conservative (usually no sleeveless tops or exposed waistlines). The community of volunteers will create their own covenant, which will govern such things as house rules and spiritual accountability as well as set goals and aims of their year together. Community covenants are living documents and are reviewed regularly. In addition to serving in a social service agency, the volunteers will be part of a local church and active community members in their neighborhood.
Age: 20-29
Education: college desirable
Other: applicants should be considering a career in urban ministry.
