DWELL/YAV Miami

The Miami team meets together on a regular basis. Photo from the NVO archives. This site seeks young adults to serve and learn with the people of Miami, to engage in intentional Christian community and personal discipleship, to work with local ministries and agencies and to explore urban multi-cultural ministry as a vocation and calling.
Potential sites include service in the areas of:
- homeless services
- education
- children/youth
- immigrant and refugee services
- community organizing
Volunteers will serve their work placements approximately 32 hours a week (four days).
Volunteers live together in a community house. The house is selected and maintained by the program. Currently one house is located in the Little Havana neighborhood of Central Miami. The house holds up to six people. It includes utilities, air conditioning, stove, refrigerator, washer and dryer. The other house is located in Homestead, Florida. It also holds up to six people and includes all of the above.
Volunteers will spend one day per week with their house community in book discussions, service projects or issue education. In addition, they will participate in a weekly evening community meal and other various activities, worship together once a week and attend retreats. Four hours a week are set aside for participation in a local church congregation of the volunteer’s choosing. One day a week is set aside for a personal day. Some work sites prefer or require Spanish, Creole or French but it is not required to participate in the Miami program. All volunteers are asked to raise $6,500 of support and write monthly reflections.
