The book of Genesis says that human beings are made in God's
image. One way of understanding what that means is to think
in terms of what God does rather than how God "looks."
God creates. God also has given us the capacity to create.
We can arrange words, think new thoughts, bring things together
in unique ways. When we do that, we become co-creators with
God, who continues to make new things as well as to make things
new.
There are many opportunities in the Spirituality area of our
web site for you to engage in creative activities as a way,
in the words of the Westminster Catechism, to "glorify
God and enjoy [God] forever." You will be invited to listen
to music, hear scripture being read, move your body into various
positions, take a meditative walk, look deeply into the artistic
expressions of others, contemplate scripture passages, among
other things.
You also will be invited to respond to some of these activities
in creative ways. You may choose to write a poem, enter thoughts
into a journal, cut out colored paper into shapes or some other
method of expression. In so doing, you reflect the image of
the God the creator. Try several things to see what speaks to
your soul.
