About this blog

Brian Frick is the Associate for Camp and Conferences Ministries with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). He has been involved in camp and conference ministry since high school. For the past ten years, Brian has served as program director of Johnsonburg Center in New Jersey, Westminster Woods in California, and Heartland Center in Missouri.

Camp and conference ministry compliments and partners with other ministry aspects of our church to foster faith development and reflection. As our communities and our church changes, our ministries need to grow and adapt with creative and emergent programming and leadership to meet new realities.

These blogs entries, though varied, are intended to spur thought and conversation around the opportunities and challenges before us.

Growing Collaboration between Executive Presbyters and Camp Directors

2009 AEPS - PCCCA - OCCM Planning Meeting I had the joy this week of working with talented and respected Executive Presbyters (Paul Reiter, Giddings Love-Joy; Gay Mothershed, West Virginia, Don Owen, Southern Kansas, and Graham Hart, Peace River) from the AEPS (Association of Executive PresbyterS) and Camp/Conference Center directors (David Gill, Ferncliff, AR; Maria Shupe, Highlands Camp and Retreat Center, CO; Peter Surgenor, Holmes Presbyterian Center, NY)  from PCCCA (Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Association) as well as Joel Winchip, Executive Director of PCCCA (Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Association) and myself.
In these financially uncertain times, and as our denomination begins to cope with change, it is essential that EP's are planning a future for their Presbyteries and the sites they own.
Expect to hear lots more from this partnership going forward.
