Feeling the Movement at General Assembly
Martha Miller
Would you ever think of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) General Assembly as a discernment opportunity? A place to hear God calling you into more active discipleship; to live out your baptism? It actually happens to be a great one. Since General Assembly (GA) is the business meeting of the denomination it is easy to get hooked into the decisions and issues at hand but it can be just as easy to also feel the movement of the Holy Spirit as those decisions are made and the issues discussed. It’s community.
This year, the discernment aspect will be even more intentional for one of our amazing advisory delegate groups. Young Adult Advisory Delegates (YAADs), who actively participate in the GA committees while also advising the voting commissioners during the plenary, will be offered several discernment resources. One of these is a supplement to the GA Daily Devotions. If you will be participating as a YAAD, you’ll get a printed copy of this resource for use during your time at GA. If you will not be serving as a YAAD this year but would like to participate from afar, please join with us in this venture by printing out or reading along with us.
General Assembly occurs July 3-10, 2010 in Minneapolis, MN.
During those days, read the daily devotions as found on The Presbyterian Leader.com at https://www.thepresbyterianleader.com/GeneralAssembly.aspx.
Then, use this supplement to think through the GA theme and how it and the event connect to your own life. You may not be there in person but we will all feel the Spirit!
