Information is still coming in about the devastating effects of the earthquakes in Japan and Ecuador, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is organizing a response to help sustain life and restore hope in the coming days.
“Our hearts break and rise up in prayer for the people of Ecuador and Japan,” said the Rev. Dr. Laurie Kraus, coordinator for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. “Right now, we need the church’s prayers and financial assistance.”
Japan has been rocked with earthquakes and aftershocks since Thursday as the death toll and number of wounded continues to rise. A devastating earth quake in Ecuador on Saturday, and then again Sunday, has left an estimated 235 dead and more than 1500 wounded.
Kraus and her colleagues at the Presbyterian Mission Agency and throughout the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) are working with our partners to meet immediate needs and support long-term recovery. More details will be available in the coming days.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is the emergency response and refugee program of the denomination, committed to the long-term recovery of communities adversely affected by a crisis or catastrophic event.
