The death last week of a U.S. Capitol Police officer reminds us once again that we are a nation in need of God. The senseless actions against Officer William Evans have left a mother without her son and two children without a father. Just a few short months ago, this same ground was the site of a deadly assault that left five people dead and more than 140 injured.

The continuous bursts of violence that we see and hear taking place across our country are becoming all too common. Instead of focusing on how we can work together to solve our problems, many have come to believe that violence is the only solution.

Now, barricades line the sidewalks around the center of our nation’s government. Military and law enforcement presence is on the increase, a stark reminder that our world continues to spiral out of control. We are swiftly becoming a country that does not put the cross before the weapon, love before hate and inclusion before exclusion.

We have come to a time where we cannot wait for someone else to take action. It is incumbent on all of us to be the voice of love, hope and encouragement. If you see someone hurting, help them. If you hear someone speaking ill of others, show them another way. Only together can we see the path that God has laid out before us.
