About this blog

Brian Frick is the Associate for Camp and Conferences Ministries with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). He has been involved in camp and conference ministry since high school. For the past ten years, Brian has served as program director of Johnsonburg Center in New Jersey, Westminster Woods in California, and Heartland Center in Missouri.

Camp and conference ministry compliments and partners with other ministry aspects of our church to foster faith development and reflection. As our communities and our church changes, our ministries need to grow and adapt with creative and emergent programming and leadership to meet new realities.

These blogs entries, though varied, are intended to spur thought and conversation around the opportunities and challenges before us.

Green action plan for your site?

Perspectives_CareForCreation Well Eathday is upon us as it is every year. (Sunday April 25th)
What are you doing in response?
Here is part of an email shared by the Thoughtful Christian that might spark some thoughts.  If we are encouraging congregations to focus on Green Action plans, we should do the same with out sites with intentionality and integrity.
The other thing I like about this is it is a retreat guide they are highlighting - what if you used that guide to create a retreat that congregations could come to?  It worked at Stony Point to bring pastors together to focus on greening their churches, why couldn't it work for you?  Good use of your site, good connection with the Church, good service to congregations, and great for the environment.  That's a win, win, win, win!

Dear Thoughtful Christians,

This week marks the 40th anniversary of the official
Earth Day campaign. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970, and was designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. What started as just one day has turned into a whole month of activities in schools, communities, and churches around the world.

I'd like to recommend that your church consider using The Green Study Pack. This six-session study pack takes a down-to-earth look at the practical concerns we should be aware of relating to global climate change. Specifically, how is global climate change actually affecting our land, our water, our air? And what should we be doing about it?

If your congregation is committed to changing its ecological footprint check out our three-day retreat titled "Developing a Green Action Plan for Your Congregation." This retreat will not deal just in theory. By the end of the retreat, church leaders and others will have created a list of specific actions they will suggest to the congregation. This retreat will help your congregation keep the spirit of
Earth Day alive for more than just one day.
