Sound the Alarm

Sound the Alarm

Today, our partners at UNICEF have issued a united call to action regarding an unfolding—but largely untold—humanitarian crisis in the Sahel region of Africa. The Sahel nutrition crisis spans the countries of Niger, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and the northern regions of Cameroon, Nigeria and Senegal.

UNICEF anticipates that one million children suffering from severe malnutrition in this region could die within months without immediate humanitarian assistance. Many more are at risk of stunting and irreversible, permanent brain damage and disability as a result of malnutrition.

An estimated 95% of severely malnourished children can be saved by intervening with specialized therapeutic feeding and treatment.  By partnering with organizations on the ground in the region, UNICEF can identify and reverse the devastating progression of severe malnutrition if they can secure the resources needed to fund this response.

This crisis is unfolding largely under the radar of major media outlets. Sound the alarm—and spread the word! See the video about the crisis. Share on your social networking sites.
