Hear the Mosses at the CDF National Conference

If you’ve ever had the privilege of attending Children’s Defense Fund’s Proctor Institute of Child Advocacy Ministries at Haley Farm in Clinton, Tennessee, then you’ve experienced morning devotions with Dr. Otis Moss Jr. and Rev. Otis Moss III. With two very different styles, this father and son are among the very best and most powerful preachers in the nation, standing tall in a long line of pastors whose prophetic message proclaims that love and justice are inseparable.

Theologian, pastor, and civic leader the Reverend Dr. Otis Moss, Jr. is one of America's most influential religious leaders and highly sought-after public speakers today. Dr. Moss has been involved in advocating civil and human rights and social justice issues for most of his adult life. Having been a staff member of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., he currently serves as a national board member and trustee for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Non-Violent Social Change.

The Rev. Otis Moss, III serves as pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ and has a unique gift to communicate across generations. His creative biblically -based messages have inspired young and old alike. His intergenerational preaching gift has made Rev. Moss a popular speaker on college campuses, at conferences and churches across the globe.

This July 22-25 in Cincinnati, the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) is hosting its first national conference since 2003 for 3,000 leading advocates for children and the poor.  For this summer only, the Proctor Institute for Child Advocacy Ministries will be suspended in order that faithful child advocates can attend the national conference. But people of faith will still have the opportunity to hear the two Mosses preach. In their morning devotions, we can be assured that the Holy Spirit will trouble, stir up and energize us as we prepare to do the hard work of advocating for the kind of structural and systemic changes our children need. After all, in John’s gospel, one word for the Spirit is the Advocate!
