Major national education, civil rights, religious and parents’ groups have launched a sign-on resolution calling federal and state policymakers to reduce what has become an obsession with standardized testing.
The resolution calls on Congress and the Administration to overhaul the Elementary and Secondary Education Act [No Child Left Behind (NCLB)] to reduce standardized testing. According to the resolution, public schools should return to their primary mission, emphasizing “innovation, creativity, problem solving, collaboration, communication, critical thinking and deep subject-matter knowledge to prepare students to thrive in a democracy and increasingly global society and economy.”
