Together With Children is the blog of the Office of Child Advocacy.

Children are the ones who have been affected the most profoundly by today’s difficult economic environment. Today, 16.4 million children in this country in working families live in poverty, an increase of a million in the past year. A disproportionate number of these children are Black and Latino.
In a political climate of one-upmanship, character assassination, name calling and position bashing, how do those who care about children shift the conversation to the issues that impact children? One way to recast the conversation is to look at political candidates and the solutions they propose through a lens that focuses on the needs of children. The Presbyterian Child Advocacy Network (PCAN), a network of the Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association, has produced a congregational resource with questions for candidates for office. Download the resource from PCAN’s website.
Pray for all candidates for public office—those with whom you disagree, as well as those whose positions you support. Pray that in the midst of a highly charged political season, you will find ways to bring the issues that impact childhood to the attention of those who aspire to political office.
