Daily Readings

(1) De David, cuando se retiró de la presencia de Abimélec, ante quien había fingido sufrir un ataque 1 (2) Bendeciré al Señor a todas horas;
mis labios siempre lo alabarán.
2 (3) Yo me siento orgulloso del Señor;
¡óiganlo y alégrense, hombres humildes!
3 (4) Alabemos juntos y a una voz
la grandeza del nombre del Señor.

4 (5) Recurrí al Señor, y él me contestó,
y me libró de todos mis temores.
5 (6) Los que miran al Señor
quedan radiantes de alegría
y jamás se verán defraudados.
6 (7) Este pobre gritó, y el Señor lo oyó
y lo libró de todas sus angustias.
7 (8) El ángel del Señor protege y salva
a los que honran al Señor.
8 (9) Prueben, y vean que el Señor es bueno.
¡Feliz el hombre que en él confía!
9 (10) Honren al Señor, los consagrados a él,
pues nada faltará a los que lo honran.
10 (11) Los ricos se vuelven pobres, y sufren hambre,
pero a los que buscan al Señor nunca les faltará ningún bien.

11 (12) Vengan, hijos míos, y escúchenme:
voy a enseñarles a honrar al Señor.
12 (13) ¿Quieres vivir mucho tiempo?
¿Quieres gozar de la vida?
13 (14) Pues refrena tu lengua de hablar mal,
y nunca digan mentiras tus labios.
14 (15) Aléjate de la maldad, y haz lo bueno;
busca la paz, y síguela.

15 (16) El Señor cuida de los hombres honrados
y presta oído a sus clamores.
16 (17) El Señor está en contra de los malhechores,
para borrar de la tierra su recuerdo.
17 (18) El Señor atiende al clamor del hombre honrado,
y lo libra de todas sus angustias.
18 (19) El Señor está cerca, para salvar a los que tienen el corazón hecho pedazos
y han perdido la esperanza.

19 (20) El hombre honrado pasa por muchos males,
pero el Señor lo libra de todos ellos.
20 (21) Él le protege todos los huesos;
ni uno solo le romperán.
21 (22) A los malvados los mata su propia maldad;
los que odian al hombre honrado serán castigados.
22 (23) Pero el Señor salva la vida a sus siervos;
¡no serán castigados los que en él confían!

1 ¡Aleluya!

Alabaré al Señor con toda mi alma.
2 Alabaré al Señor mientras yo viva;
cantaré himnos a mi Dios mientras yo exista.
3 No pongan su confianza en hombres importantes,
en simples hombres que no pueden salvar,
4 pues cuando mueren regresan al polvo,
y ese mismo día terminan sus proyectos.

5 Feliz quien recibe ayuda del Dios de Jacob,
quien pone su esperanza en el Señor su Dios.
6 Él hizo cielo, tierra y mar,
y todo lo que hay en ellos.
Él siempre mantiene su palabra.
7 Hace justicia a los oprimidos
y da de comer a los hambrientos.

El Señor da libertad a los presos;
8 el Señor devuelve la vista a los ciegos;
el Señor levanta a los caídos;
el Señor ama a los hombres honrados;
9 el Señor protege a los extranjeros
y sostiene a los huérfanos y a las viudas,
pero hace que los malvados pierdan el camino.

10 Oh Sión, el Señor reinará por siempre;
tu Dios reinará por todos los siglos.

²¹Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. ²²For in the day that I brought your ancestors out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak to them or command them concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. ²³But this command I gave them, “Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk only in the way that I command you, so that it may be well with you.” ²⁴Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but, in the stubbornness of their evil will, they walked in their own counsels, and looked backward rather than forward. ²⁵From the day that your ancestors came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have persistently sent all my servants the prophets to them, day after day; ²⁶yet they did not listen to me, or pay attention, but they stiffened their necks. They did worse than their ancestors did.

²⁷So you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. You shall call to them, but they will not answer you. ²⁸You shall say to them: This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the LORD their God, and did not accept discipline; truth has perished; it is cut off from their lips.
²⁹  Cut off your hair and throw it away;
          raise a lamentation on the bare heights,
     for the LORD has rejected and forsaken
          the generation that provoked his wrath.

³⁰For the people of Judah have done evil in my sight, says the LORD; they have set their abominations in the house that is called by my name, defiling it. ³¹And they go on building the high place of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire — which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind. ³²Therefore, the days are surely coming, says the LORD, when it will no more be called Topheth, or the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of Slaughter: for they will bury in Topheth until there is no more room. ³³The corpses of this people will be food for the birds of the air, and for the animals of the earth; and no one will frighten them away. ³⁴And I will bring to an end the sound of mirth and gladness, the voice of the bride and bridegroom in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for the land shall become a waste.

¹³For the promise that he would inherit the world did not come to Abraham or to his descendants through the law but through the righteousness of faith. ¹⁴If it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. ¹⁵For the law brings wrath; but where there is no law, neither is there violation.

¹⁶For this reason it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his descendants, not only to the adherents of the law but also to those who share the faith of Abraham (for he is the father of all of us, ¹⁷as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”) — in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. ¹⁸Hoping against hope, he believed that he would become “the father of many nations,” according to what was said, “So numerous shall your descendants be.” ¹⁹He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was already as good as dead (for he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. ²⁰No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, ²¹being fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. ²²Therefore his faith “was reckoned to him as righteousness.” ²³Now the words, “it was reckoned to him,” were written not for his sake alone, ²⁴but for ours also. It will be reckoned to us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, ²⁵who was handed over to death for our trespasses and was raised for our justification.

³⁷On the last day of the festival, the great day, while Jesus was standing there, he cried out, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, ³⁸and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’” ³⁹Now he said this about the Spirit, which believers in him were to receive; for as yet there was no Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

⁴⁰When they heard these words, some in the crowd said, “This is really the prophet.” ⁴¹Others said, “This is the Messiah.” But some asked, “Surely the Messiah does not come from Galilee, does he? ⁴²Has not the scripture said that the Messiah is descended from David and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?” ⁴³So there was a division in the crowd because of him. ⁴⁴Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him.

⁴⁵Then the temple police went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, “Why did you not arrest him?” ⁴⁶The police answered, “Never has anyone spoken like this!” ⁴⁷Then the Pharisees replied, “Surely you have not been deceived too, have you? ⁴⁸Has any one of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹But this crowd, which does not know the law — they are accursed.” ⁵⁰Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before, and who was one of them, asked, ⁵¹“Our law does not judge people without first giving them a hearing to find out what they are doing, does it?” ⁵²They replied, “Surely you are not also from Galilee, are you? Search and you will see that no prophet is to arise from Galilee.”

1   A ti, Señor, elevo mi alma.
2   Dios mío, en ti confío;
          no permitas que quede confundido,
          ni que mis enemigos se alegren de mí.
3   No dejen que se avergüencen los que en ti esperan;
          se avergüencen los que sin motivo actúan con deslealtad.

4   Enséñame, Señor, tus caminos;
          hazme conocer tus sendas.
5   Guíame con tu verdad y enséñame,
          porque tú eres Dios, mi Salvador,
          y en ti espero todo el día.

6   Recuerda, Señor, tu misericordia y tu amor fiel,
          que son desde tiempos antiguos.
7   No recuerdes los pecados de mi juventud ni mis rebeldías;
          por tu amor, acuérdate de mí, Señor, por tu bondad.

8   Bueno y recto es el Señor;
          por eso enseña a pecadores el camino.
9   Guía a los humildes por el camino recto,
          y enseña su senda a los humildes.
10  Los caminos del Señor son amor y fidelidad
          para quienes guardan su pacto y sus mandamientos.

11  Por amor a tu nombre, Señor,
          perdona mis culpas, que son muchas.

12  ¿Quién teme al Señor?
          Él les enseñará el camino que deben elegir.

13  Vivirán tranquilos,
          y sus descendientes heredarán la tierra.
14  El Señor es amigo de quienes le temen,
          y les muestra su pacto.
15  Mis ojos están siempre puestos en el Señor,
          porque él sacará mis pies de la trampa.

16  Vuélvete hacia mí y ten compasión,
          porque estoy solo y afligido.
17  Alivia mi tristeza,
          y sácame de mis angustias.
18  Considera mi sufrimiento y mis dolores,
          y perdona todos mis pecados.

19  Mira cuántos enemigos tengo,
          y cómo me odian con odio violento.
20  Guarda mi vida, sálvame;
          que no quede confundido, porque en ti me refugio.
21  Que la integridad y la rectitud me protejan,
          porque en ti espero.

22  Sálvanos, Dios de Israel,
          de todos sus problemas.

1 El que vive bajo la sombra protectora
del Altísimo y Todopoderoso,
2 dice al Señor: «Tú eres mi refugio,
mi castillo, ¡mi Dios, en quien confío!»

3 Sólo él puede librarte
de trampas ocultas y plagas mortales,
4 pues te cubrirá con sus alas,
y bajo ellas estarás seguro.
¡Su fidelidad te protegerá como un escudo!
5 No tengas miedo a los peligros nocturnos,
ni a las flechas lanzadas de día,
6 ni a las plagas que llegan con la oscuridad,
ni a las que destruyen a pleno sol;
7 pues mil caerán muertos a tu izquierda
y diez mil a tu derecha,
pero a ti nada te pasará.
8 Solamente lo habrás de presenciar:
verás a los malvados recibir su merecido.

9 Ya que has hecho del Señor tu refugio,
del Altísimo tu lugar de protección,
10 no te sobrevendrá ningún mal
ni la enfermedad llegará a tu casa;
11 pues él mandará que sus ángeles
te cuiden por dondequiera que vayas.
12 Te levantarán con sus manos
para que no tropieces con piedra alguna.
13 Podrás andar entre leones,
entre monstruos y serpientes.

14 «Yo lo pondré a salvo,
fuera del alcance de todos,
porque él me ama y me conoce.
15 Cuando me llame, le contestaré;
¡yo mismo estaré con él!
Lo libraré de la angustia
y lo colmaré de honores;
16 lo haré disfrutar de una larga vida:
¡lo haré gozar de mi salvación!»
