AUSTIN, TX – Five seniors at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary have received the highest honors given by the seminary. Caressa Murray has received the Janie Maxwell Morris Fellowship; Phillip Hogan has received the Alsup-Frierson Fellowship for Excellence in Biblical Studies and Hermeneutics; Greg Amen has received the W. P. Newell Memorial Fellowship; Brian Dees has received the Pile-Morgan Fellowship; and Renee Roederer has received the David L. Stitt Fellowship.

CHARLOTTE, NC – Friends of William A. White Jr., a “Life Trustee”of Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education, have pledged more than $528,750 to establish a fund for teaching excellence at the seminary in his honor. The fund, which was initially established with a lead gift from the Trexler Foundation of Charlotte, establishes an endowment to support faculty at Union-PSCE at Charlotte. It is hoped that the fund might grow into a full professorship in Charlotte for the teaching of New Testament. Endowed professorships at the Charlotte campus already support full-time faculty in Bible, preaching and practical theology, Christian education and theology.

CHICAGO – Zabrina Santiago, an upcoming graduate of McCormick Theological Seminary, has been named partner cities director for The Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions. Santiago will graduate in May with a master’s degree in theological studies. In her new position, she will oversee involvement of local inter-religious movements in cities around the world in preparation for the 2009 parliament event scheduled for Dec. 3-9 in Melbourne, Australia. Santiago has long held a passion for social justice and interfaith ministry, and she worked for 15 years in the corporate sector as a professional educator and consultant to major investment firms and financial entities including the New York Stock Exchange and Morningstar Investment Services in Chicago.

PITTSBURGH, PAPittsburgh Theological Seminary’s World Mission Initiative will host “A New Day In Mission” March 28-29 featuring keynote speakers the Rev. William J. Carl III, Nard Pugyao, the Rev. Hunter Farrell and the Rev. Ken Bailey. Carl, president of Pittsburgh seminary, will present “Why Go to the Mission Field?” Pugyao, a first-generation Christian from the Isnag language group in the Philippines, will present “When the Word Becomes Personal.” Farrell, director of World Mission for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), will present “Back to the Future: Presbyterian World Mission in the New Millennium.” And Bailey, a retired Presbyterian missionary, author and lecturer in Middle Eastern New Testament studies, will present “The Old Story for a New Day.” During the event participants also will have the opportunity to attend their choice of 14 workshops covering various mission topics. PRINCETON, NJ – James Ault, an award-winning documentary filmmaker and scholar, will come to Princeton Theological Seminary on March 26 for a screening of his new film, Faces of African Christianity: The Rise of African Christianity and Its World Significance. The film addresses Christianity’s explosive growth in Africa, which is part of a reversal in world history. Over two-thirds of the world’s Christians now live in the global South, with Africa being the fastest-growing region. The screening will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. in Stuart Hall on the seminary’s main campus. It will be preceded by an introduction given by Kenda Creasy Dean, associate professor of youth, church and culture and director of the Tennent School of Christian Education.

SAN ANSELMO, CA – Annette Weissenrieder recently joined the San Francisco Theological Seminary faculty as an assistant professor of New Testament. She is the author of Images of Illness in the Gospel of Luke. Insights of Ancient Medical Texts, and the co-editor of Picturing the New Testament. Weissenrieder is presently working on the monograph project Temple in New Testament in the Light of Ancient Theory of Architecture and Numismatics and is in the final editing stage of Ancient Medical Texts and New Testament. A Sourcebook, Volume I. Weissenrieder is engaged in research on New Testament anthropology, pneumatology and the interface between the Graeco-Roman world and the New Testament, especially ancient medicine and ancient visual art.
