Morning Reading 1
Salmos 123
(1a) Cántico de las subidas.
1 (1b) Hacia ti, Señor, miro suplicante;
3 Ten compasión de nosotros, Señor;
ten compasión de nosotros,
pues ya no soportamos sus insultos.
4 ¡Demasiado hemos sufrido
la burla de los ricos
y el desprecio de los orgullosos!
Morning Reading 2
Salmos 146
1 ¡Aleluya!
Alabaré al Señor con toda mi alma.
2 Alabaré al Señor mientras yo viva;
cantaré himnos a mi Dios mientras yo exista.
El Señor da libertad a los presos;
8 el Señor devuelve la vista a los ciegos;
el Señor levanta a los caídos;
el Señor ama a los hombres honrados;
10 Oh Sión, el Señor reinará por siempre;
tu Dios reinará por todos los siglos.
¡Aleluya!
First Reading
Isaiah 44:9-20
9All who make idols are nothing, and the things they delight in do not profit; their witnesses neither see nor know. And so they will be put to shame. 10Who would fashion a god or cast an image that can do no good? 11Look, all its devotees shall be put to shame; the artisans too are merely human. Let them all assemble, let them stand up; they shall be terrified, they shall all be put to shame.
12The ironsmith fashions it and works it over the coals, shaping it with hammers, and forging it with his strong arm; he becomes hungry and his strength fails, he drinks no water and is faint. 13The carpenter stretches a line, marks it out with a stylus, fashions it with planes, and marks it with a compass; he makes it in human form, with human beauty, to be set up in a shrine. 14He cuts down cedars or chooses a holm tree or an oak and lets it grow strong among the trees of the forest. He plants a cedar and the rain nourishes it. 15Then it can be used as fuel. Part of it he takes and warms himself; he kindles a fire and bakes bread. Then he makes a god and worships it, makes it a carved image and bows down before it. 16Half of it he burns in the fire; over this half he roasts meat, eats it and is satisfied. He also warms himself and says, “Ah, I am warm, I can feel the fire!” 17The rest of it he makes into a god, his idol, bows down to it and worships it; he prays to it and says, “Save me, for you are my god!”
18They do not know, nor do they comprehend; for their eyes are shut, so that they cannot see, and their minds as well, so that they cannot understand. 19No one considers, nor is there knowledge or discernment to say, “Half of it I burned in the fire; I also baked bread on its coals, I roasted meat and have eaten. Now shall I make the rest of it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?” 20He feeds on ashes; a deluded mind has led him astray, and he cannot save himself or say, “Is not this thing in my right hand a fraud?”
Second Reading
Ephesians 4:17-32
17Now this I affirm and insist on in the Lord: you must no longer live as the Gentiles live, in the futility of their minds. 18They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart. 19They have lost all sensitivity and have abandoned themselves to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. 20That is not the way you learned Christ! 21For surely you have heard about him and were taught in him, as truth is in Jesus. 22You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, 23and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
25So then, putting away falsehood, let all of us speak the truth to our neighbors, for we are members of one another. 26Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27and do not make room for the devil. 28Thieves must give up stealing; rather let them labor and work honestly with their own hands, so as to have something to share with the needy. 29Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear. 30And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption. 31Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, 32and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you.
Gospel Reading
Mark 3:19b-35
19bThen he went home; 20and the crowd came together again, so that they could not even eat. 21When his family heard it, they went out to restrain him, for people were saying, “He has gone out of his mind.” 22And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, “He has Beelzebul, and by the ruler of the demons he casts out demons.” 23And he called them to him, and spoke to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? 24If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but his end has come. 27But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his property without first tying up the strong man; then indeed the house can be plundered.
28“Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter; 29but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin” — 30for they had said, “He has an unclean spirit.”
31Then his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside, they sent to him and called him. 32A crowd was sitting around him; and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside, asking for you.” 33And he replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” 34And looking at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.”
Evening Reading 1
Salmos 30
(1) Salmo. Canto para la dedicación del templo. De David.
1 (2) Señor, yo te alabo
porque tú me libertaste,
porque no has permitido
que mis enemigos se burlen de mí.
2 (3) Señor, mi Dios,
te pedí ayuda, y me sanaste;
3 (4) tú, Señor, me salvaste de la muerte;
me diste vida, me libraste de morir.
4 (5) Ustedes, fieles del Señor, ¡cántenle himnos!,
¡alaben su santo nombre!
5 (6) Porque su enojo dura un momento,
pero su buena voluntad, toda la vida.
Si lloramos por la noche,
por la mañana tendremos alegría.
6 (7) Yo me sentí seguro, y pensé:
«Nada me hará caer jamás.»
7 (8) Pero tú, Señor, en tu bondad
me habías afirmado en lugar seguro,
y apenas me negaste tu ayuda
el miedo me dejó confundido.
8 (9) A ti, Señor, clamo;
a ti, Señor, suplico:
9 (10) ¿Qué se gana con que yo muera,
con que sea llevado al sepulcro?
¡El polvo no puede alabarte
ni hablar de tu fidelidad!
10 (11) Señor, óyeme y ten compasión de mí;
Señor, ¡ayúdame!
11 (12) Has cambiado en danzas mis lamentos;
me has quitado el luto
y me has vestido de fiesta.
12 (13) Por eso, Señor y Dios,
no puedo quedarme en silencio:
¡te cantaré himnos de alabanza
y siempre te daré gracias!
Evening Reading 2
Salmos 86
(1a) Oración de David.
1 (1b) Señor, dígnate escucharme,
porque estoy muy triste y pobre;
2 protégeme, pues te soy fiel.
Tú eres mi Dios;
pues a ti dirijo mi oración.
5 Porque tú, Señor, eres bueno y perdonas;
tú has formado a todas las naciones,
y ellas vendrán a ti para adorarte
y para glorificar tu nombre.
10 Porque sólo tú eres Dios;
eres Dios tierno y compasivo,
paciente, todo amor y verdad.
16 Mírame, ¡ten compasión de mí!
¡Salva a este siervo tuyo! ¡Dale tu fuerza!
¡Tú, Señor, me das ayuda y consuelo!
