The Rev. Dr. Aimee Moiso selected to manage the PC(USA)’s social witness policy
Moiso, who’s served the church in varied capacities, begins her service on Aug. 18
LOUISVILLE — The Rev. Dr. Aimee Moiso, who has represented the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in several national and international ecumenical settings, has been selected as Manager of Social Witness Policy in the PC(USA)’s Interim Unified Agency.
She’ll work half-time beginning Aug. 18 through the end of 2025, then full-time throughout 2026. She’ll serve in an interim capacity for the duration, and will be eligible to apply for the full-time position at the end of the term.
Moiso succeeds the Rev. Dr. Dhawn B. Martin, who’s now teaching theology at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
“It is an honor to join the staff of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and further its social witness, especially in times of national and international turmoil,” Moiso said. “As realities like Christian nationalism and unabashed xenophobia intensify, the voice of the church is all the more important in the public square. I am grateful to be part of a denomination that takes seriously moral and ethical questions and discerns faithful action together."
Moiso is currently an independent scholar living in Louisville, Kentucky. Before that, she served as Associate Director of the Louisville Institute.
“I’m pleased to be able to appoint Aimee to this important role in the life of the church,” said the Rev. Jihyun Oh, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly and Executive Director of the Interim Unified Agency. “The PC(USA) has a long history of speaking to the issues of the day from our particular Reformed Presbyterian perspective. Aimee’s commitment to justice and naming important truths will serve the IUA, and the whole church, well.”
Moiso represented the PC(USA) at the International Reformed-Anglican Dialogue. Her primary duty in her new role will be supporting the Advisory Committee on Social Witness Policy. She’ll also be working to help the whole church to engage in social witness policies passed by the General Assembly.
Ordained to the ministry by Cascades Presbytery, Moiso is currently a member-at-large in Mid-Kentucky Presbytery. She is a 1997 graduate of Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, and a 2006 graduate of San Francisco Theological Seminary, where she earned an MDiv degree.
In 2007, Moiso earned a Master of Ecumenical Studies degree from Bossey Ecumenical Institute and the University of Geneva. Her thesis was titled “How Matters: A Study of the Relationship Between Approach and Outcome in Ecclesial Dialogue.” Her doctorate in Homiletics and Liturgics is from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
She moderated the Civil Union and Marriage Issues Committee during the 220th General Assembly (2012) and has served on the General Assembly Committee on Ecumenical and Interreligious Relations, including a time as moderator.
