LOUISVILLE — In the wake of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address and amidst mounting warfare across the Middle East, the PC(USA)’s Office of Public Witness is inviting Presbyterians to gather virtually, in a nonpartisan space, for a prayer of unity and peace.

The Prayers for Justice, Peace, and Hope service will be held via Zoom at 7 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday. The service will include prayer, Scripture readings, songs and a litany. Registration details are available here.

The PC(USA)’s advocacy director, the Rev. Jimmie R. Hawkins, said that he hopes that participants will “keep in mind the issues presented, which is a call for peace and justice for all people and for an end to violence in whatever shape or form it might take.”

The service is expected to last for about 30 minutes and will be recorded.

“As people of faith, our first response is to engage with God in prayer for the things on our hearts,” Hawkins said, “then to discern ways in which we can join the collective voices calling for a greater demonstration of peace globally and domestically.”
