This is a draft of materials prepared for the interreligious events section of the forthcoming edition of the Book of Common Worship (WJKP, 2018). The suggestions are offered to assist in planning an interreligious or community gathering in a time of conflict or crisis. These ideas might also be adapted for ecumenical services.
The practice of prayer for persons of other faiths in the context of Christian worship is appropriate on any Lord’s Day, particularly at the time of an important day or season for another religious community. Such intercessions may lead to greater interfaith understanding and cooperation. Use the suggestions within this document as a model for framing intercessions at significant times for neighbors of other faiths or Christian traditions.
