공공 정책 선교 사무처과 장로교 유엔 사역은 미국장로교의 공공정책 선교 사역과 증언을 위해서 지도자와 옹호자를 양성하는 것이 필수적이라고 믿습니다.교회와 공적 영역에서 경험적 학습과 직업적 분별을 추구하는 사람들에게, 이 인턴십은 실질적이고 교육적인 일과 지침을 제공하고자 합니다.
인턴은 공공 정책 선교 사역과 국제 옹호 활동에 대한 폭넓은 경험을 쌓고, 자신의 신앙 여정, 미국장로교의 사회 정의 가르침, 오늘날 세계와 미국의 정치 및 사회 현실 사이의 연관성을 탐구하게 됩니다.
봉사를 배울 수 있는 정의의 모델
워싱턴 D.C.는 무급 노동으로 돌아간다고 해도 과언이 아닙니다.전국 각지의 사람들이 지식과 경험을 얻기 위해 미국의 수도로 모여듭니다.목표가 거창하지만, 현실은 이를 따라주지 못합니다. 많은 청소년들이 무급 보조 직원(경험으로 배울 수 있는 환경이 못 됨)으로 채용되어, 책임만 있고 권한이 없는 상황에 처해 있기 때문입니다.
공공 정책 선교사무처에서는 인턴십을 노동력의 원천으로 보는 지배적인 패러다임에 도전하고자 합니다.이 사무처에서 인턴십과 펠로우십을 제공하는 것은 '값싼 노동력'이나 일손을 구하려는 것이 아니라, 경험적 학습, 성장, 분별력을 위한 진정한 기회를 제공하기 위해 노력하는 것입니다.인턴과 펠로우들은 이 사무실에서 사역에 대한 책임을 맡게 되며, 목표를 달성하는 데 필요한 자원을 직원들로부터 지원받습니다. 인턴은 책임과 권한을 모두 경험합니다.

Our Fellowship program takes place during the summer months, typically from June through July. Summer Fellows engage in a full, immersive experience over a condensed eight-week period.
Fellows generally work between 20–30 hours per week and are compensated hourly for their time and contributions. While housing is not provided in either Washington, D.C., or New York, we are happy to assist fellows in exploring housing options and identifying potential resources.
The Fellowship is conducted in a hybrid format, offering both in-person and virtual opportunities. This flexible approach allows young adults to fully engage with the work of public witness and advocacy while accommodating individual needs and circumstances.
The summer Fellowship is designed to be formative, practical, and empowering offering meaningful work experience, spiritual reflection, and professional growth in a supportive environment.
Internships are offered from September through May and typically last a minimum of 12 weeks. Interns generally serve part-time, allowing them to balance other commitments such as coursework or employment.
The program is open to both students and non-students, and academic credit may be arranged through participating institutions.
Current Partner Programs Include:
- Council of Christian Colleges & Universities (Undergraduate Program)
- Wesley Theological Seminary (Practice for Ministry and Mission)
- Princeton Theological Seminary
- Columbia Theological Seminary
- Union Theological Seminary
- The Internship program is unpaid and does not include a stipend.
- The Fellowship program is paid hourly during the months of June and July.
- Candidates who are sponsored by an external institution that provides its own stipend are not eligible for additional housing support from the Office of Public Witness (OPW) or Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations (PMUN).
- Most partner institutions do not allow participants to receive duplicate stipends, so candidates should consult their sponsoring organization regarding stipend eligibility.
- Housing stipends may be available depending on funding but are not guaranteed each year.
- OPW/PMUN is committed to increasing financial support as resources allow, but retains the right to offer fellowship opportunities without stipends when necessary.
The Office of Public Witness encourages applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds who are passionate about social justice and public ministry.
While the program is especially well-suited for young adults and recent graduates, all are welcome to apply.
Local pastors or mid-career individuals may wish to explore the Visiting Associate Program as part of a sabbatical or study leave.
Ideal Candidates Will Demonstrate:
- A commitment to justice and community service, both in the U.S. and globally
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Dependability, flexibility, creativity, and effective time management
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and a willingness to learn new tools
- Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in diverse and multicultural settings
