Five years before the 2010 earthquake sent Haiti into crisis, Presbyterian mission worker Mark Hare was already in the country, helping Haitian farmers grow significant amounts of food on small plots of land. Mark serves as an agricultural technician in and around Papaye, a town about 80 miles from the earthquake’s epicenter.

Hymn writer Carolyn Winfrey Gillette wrote this hymn for the Season of Peace to support the work of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program and the Peacemaking Offering. The hymn is based on the new, free Bible study “The Things That Make For Peace.” The Bible study and the hymn have five movements: recognizing peace, finding peace, practicing peace, extending peace, and living peace.
